Paul huddled inside his tiny craft.  Thin layers of glass and steel were all that separated him from the deluge.  Moments before, the sun was out.  It was a calm day.  Now, water was coming from all directions.  Nothing to do but ride it out.

Darkness enveloped him.  Paul took a deep breath and tried to relax.  He’d seen this before.  When a storm comes up sudden like this one, it doesn’t last long.

The downpour subsided, replaced by howling wind.  He checked the gaskets between metal and glass.  The vehicle was built well but that was a long time ago.

Finally, the gale ebbed.  The sky brightened.  As water cleared from the glass, he saw lights.  They were pointed at a sign.

Patriot Car Wash thanks you for your business.  Please come again!

Paul put his Subaru in gear and pulled onto the street.  He decided to treat himself to ice cream on the way home.
