So they say,
you must prepare yourself,
to let go of all you fear to lose
and I’ve tried so hard; believe me,
but my heart refuses to.

Because for three years,
I’ve waited so patiently
praying for someone like you
to give this love I’ve been saving to.

And while things weren't quite as I imagined they would be,
the seeds we planted created a solid foundation
that could withstand the it all.

You became my inspiration,
the catalyst for this internal transformation.

And while you see me as the teacher,
I’m still learning just as much as you are from this situation.

We were far "too different", you said in the beginning,
in race, in skin, in beliefs and opinions,
when we were really just two strangers who appeared all too familiar,
in a way that felt far too destined to be unintended.

Maybe we agreed long ago,
to meet somehow,
here and now,
at this exact time.

Because there’s something more profound
than the heart that lies behind
those alluring brown eyes;
there's a spirit of someone I recognize,
that I’ve known for a thousand lives,
coming back to love me again,
to finally put an end,
to what we left unfinished,
so we could get it right this time.
