I stare up in wonder at absent stars

And ponder what this void could mean

As I wander along these forlorn stairs

Into greater, blacker infinities.

I gave up my normal so I could have yours

And ebbed from the end to take my stride;

A step upon steps wrought from closed doors

Ascending from where I once thought I died.

I built this tower from jagged stone

And debris from smoldered ruin I’ve wrought,

Because I swore I’d leave that throne

Of bone, and sinew, and silent rot.

Will you be waiting for me in the end?

Or did you fall from your tower’s spine?

I’ll continue to cry, laugh, and ascend

To see if your stars are the same as mine.
