A villanelle poem exploring why memory cannot bring about emotion.

Perhaps, Repeated, Finally I’ll Feel

Emotion comes as void in memory,

but pours out for the fictions I imbibe,

perhaps, repeated, finally I’ll feel

that joy, regain what’s left in small degree

and feel what that sly smile should leave inscribed,

emotion comes as void in memory.

Ignore the end, the part where we both leave,

that too is lost, so let us circumscribe,

perhaps, repeated, finally I’ll feel

that moment, pure, engorged in revelry,

it should not be so hard to write that vibe,

emotion comes as void in memory.

How beautiful you were, in youth, and me

so sure in love’s belief subscribed,

perhaps, repeated, finally I’ll feel

what we once were, and felt, young and carefree,

impossible to solidly describe

Emotion comes as void in memory

perhaps, repeated, finally I’ll feel.

Very nice, and reads so smoothly aloud. The repetition is perfect.

Thank you! I had to fix line 14 but otherwise I'm happy to hear the repetition works!
