I Heard Voices Raised In Anger

I heard voices raised in anger.

Hatred and hostility poured from

Each and every word exchanged, each and every syllable.

A bombardment of images flooded my mind,

Roared through the atmosphere,

Decimating even the minutest trace of tranquillity.

Violence and volatility seem to encompass the world

Outside of my room,

Incapacitating me, holding me hostage.

Chaos, from the sound of it -

Echoes of anger, while glass breaking

Shatters with it every last vestige of peace.

Riots erupting; shouting, looting, missiles hurled?

And by design, I’m all alone; shaking,

In fear for my life, for my sanity as

Sounds seem to pause then convulse in a crescendo,

Exploding outwards with the force of an earthquake -

Decimating everything in it’s vicinity.

Intricate patterns of ash fall with shards of glass.

Nothing could have prepared me for this!

And now it is silent -

Not so much as a sound from the street.

Gradually, my breathing slows, pulse normalizing

Enough for me to see my fist, ripped and torn from the

Ragged wound caused by that moment when my fury was unleashed.

I don't know if you are aware of this, but the first letter in each line spells out a word; just wanted you to know that--freaky, huh?
