Poor Rose

She’d been a real beauty

once upon a time;

had gained many an admiring glance,

an appreciative sniff

and really it was only

a matter of time

before she faced

THE SNIP!

Cut off from her roots,

her nourishment,

she was not going to be allowed

to make a speedy decline

but was dropped into water

that kept her alive -

barely.

Poor rose,

she’d have rather met

with a quick end

than to linger in a half life

away from the rain,

the sun,

the nutrients that had given her

her beauty.

Now she feels herself

ebbing away,

a slow and steady decline

as petal after petal

drops

like grieving tears

so much sooner than they should,

as she dies before

her time.

I love this, Hully. How clever you are, such a great analogy with the image, Brilliant!

I don't know what it is about them that puts me so on edge - perhaps the symbolism. Thanks so much for giving this a read.
