And in that moment, it was only her. The screech of halting trains, heels clicking on the ground at various speeds the sound of thousands of jumbled conversations lost in their own adventures. It all seemed to drown within her beauty. I was fearful of my obvious intrigue, as my heart was pounding out my chest so much it nearly reached out to her. I collect myself and ask her name. “Anne,” she responds. I invited her to lunch, to which she politely declined. We were heading opposite directions to either side of town, with her train departing shortly. But as I looked into her eyes, I couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming feeling that I should follow. What harm would be done? Ambition encourages me to run, yet fear nails my feet into the ground. My throat dried up as she said her goodbyes, and turned to walk away. I stood in shock, my mind racing at a million miles an hour, envisioning the millions of possibilities and unlimited outcomes. All of which I’ve lost out on. Now, whenever I find myself at that train station, I return to that same pillar which she found me on, maybe hoping she’d come back. My years of youth are long gone and I’ve never taken a wife. And every now and then do I find a woman who I wish to take as mine; yet none of them could match her sweet vanilla scent.
