in my feelings

The world is round

And so is your face

The face I've cherished for what?

10 years?

8 years?

I really can't remember

Your circle of friends I always longed to be a member

That self-worth kept coming in the way

I love to hear you speak

Your voice is sweeter than an organized sound

Your eyes are like the sun

Shining intensely and lighting up a terrifying dull room

Those eyes - the way they look at me

I want to make so many promises

So safe, so desired, so perfect

Your hair is fabulous

That chocolate brown of mulattos

Which gives you the look of a person of South Asian descent

Your hairy arms that were once wrapped around me

For a split second

I had 'found' your lost Biology note

Which I 'stole' to get your attention

Your soft, delicate, warm arms engulfed me in a hug

I felt so beautiful - so guilty for stealing your note

I felt so desired by you

I felt safe

I felt perfect

Only for a split second

Your laugh is that honest, loud, infectious bellow that fills the room

Never more so than when a joke is just between the two of us

It is happiness embodied

I wish to spend a half-hour

Absent-mindedly stroking your hair

I want to marvel

At the way you throw your head back in unashamed laughter

I want to make love to you with the lights on

Watching every crinkle of your face

As it plays out against the movement of our bodies

I feel these emotions all in one place

I want to walk up to you now

And make you know all my wants

Make you know my feelings

But this self-worth

This cowardice!

This bearded, lanky man next to you

With the chubby little kid on your lap

Make my wants a pipe dream.
