This message was preached over two years ago. Though all of these sermons are merely notes and not the complete mesage, Judgement and Arrogance has touched many lives to step forward to share their testimony with others. It humbled some and made some a tad bit angry.
However, when God speaks, we all need to listen to what His Word says to our spirit and soul.

Judgement and Arrogance

Gail D Prentice

How many of you have it all figured out?  How many of you are happy with where you are spiritually?  How many are not?  How many of you seem to be at a loss as to how to do anything about it?

With a new year coming on strong, a new Congress coming in, there is a new set of challenges that are before us as Christians and what will soon be challenges facing this church and nation, we are gliding into a whole new day of testing and most likely testing by fire.

Over the last three years or so, I have seen an unbelievably sad decline in most Christian Churches.  There has been a complacency which is growing stronger on a daily basis.  Much of this complacency is because of the seemingly hopelessness to do anything about it spiritually and politically.  This needs to be turned around and turned around quickly.

The feel-good gospel is not helping the Church grow stronger and it is destroying this nation.

1 Peter 4:12-14, 16-19… 1 Peter 4:12-19, “Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.  15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters.  Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.  For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?  And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?  Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator.”

With a show of hands, let me see how many of you are joyous and just want to stand up right now and testify about the fiery trials and temptations that have accosted you this last week/year!

The Word says that we should not think it strange if trials and fiery test come at you, it is not at you personally necessarily.  Satan hates all Christians equally.  He just needs to work harder on some than others.

What the American people struggle to grasp is that when struggles of epic proportion come upon Christians, it is more than likely for one of two reasons and predominantly one reason that these struggles come on.  1. They are so busy working for the Kingdom of God and making great changes and becoming a Champion of Faith. (Consider my servant Job) 2. They are NOT doing ANYTHING for the Kingdom God.

Normally, it is because they are not doing anything for God or His Kingdom but when things go awry, they feel that it is because they are Christians.  If it isn’t 2, then they are doing something that REALLY gets in Satan’s craw, and I don’t see that happening too often.

In most cases, it is best, as the Word says, to rejoice when things go awry.  Bless God in everything… the good and the bad…  Again, consider Job… He blessed God despite all that had come against him.  His wife, his friends, his poverty, his health…

But let’s move back to 15 before we get stuck here.

This is pretty obvious and stands by itself.  If you are involved in criminal activity, doing evil or a busybody you are at the mercy of whatever comes your way and more likely than not, you have been asking for it to happen.  You have the old Toyota Commercial, “You asked for it, you got it, Toyota.”

I did find it interesting that busybody got added there.  That is probably one of the biggest pitfalls of the Christian Church today.  Just listen to prayer requests as a whole.  Why do we need to know the details of the problem?  We want to know who it is.  We want to know the particulars, so that we can pray more effectively.  Really?  Just pray!

Amos 6:1, 3-6,Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!  3 Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;  That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall; That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David; That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.”

Here is where the majority of Christians are today. They have gotten comfortable in air-conditioned buildings/houses/cars etc.  Heated, A/C churches, with padded pews/chairs, and living quite sumptuously at home at the same time.

The days of evil are something that happens in Africa, South America, Middle East, it will never happen in Yuma, Wray, Kirk, Colorado or for that matter, the United States is to blessed to be stressed isn’t it?

But if we look at what Israel was going into then, we see the church of the 21st Century today, in fact, we see the US Government.

Look at the comfort and attitude of the people… 4-6, and even the compassion.  Sure, we post everything on FB but when was the last time you got out of the house and did something about it?  We can post praying or the cute little hands icon or whatever it is called, but did you really stop and pray?

On Facebook, we boast great faith and great works but is that the honest to goodness truth?

These people created instruments of music and virtually had orchestras playing for them.  They ate the best of the lambs and the best of the fatted calves and carelessly and even thoughtlessly tossed prayers to the ones who didn’t have as much.

They even drank out of the bowls taken out of the temple and anointed themselves with the most expensive oils and perfumes.  Old Spice after shave and Avon perfume just didn’t cut it.

As their neighbors, brothers and sisters, suffered, they laid back and if it was convenient, they might have prayed, they at least got a thumbs up on Facebook.  After all, you may have even typed “prayers sent” on Facebook!

Where is the church today?  Where is the compassion?  Where is the heart of the Church today?  Where are the preachers and politicians that shout from the rooftops concerning the injustices and atrocities that take place within the churches and the nation today?  Where are the preachers that proclaim Hell so hot that the lost can feel the heat on the souls of their feet while sitting in an A/C church?

But Bro. Prentice, we need to win them with love…  I can agree with that, but if you are not winning them with love, then scare them out of Hell if that is what it takes.

As I see it, we have very little time to see them change their heart to accept Jesus.  If time is that short, and people are not coming to Christ, then two things are taking place.  Either we are not very convincing or we are not trying to convince anybody.

God told Amos that He would no longer pass by them.  He was going to knock their misfit wall down and bring on some serious judgement.

Amos even had the high priest come to him and tell him to go somewhere else to prophesy or peach.  He was upsetting status quo and he couldn’t have him speaking against the popular messages of peace and safety.

Folks, judgement is coming to the USA.  The pillow prophets have lulled most Christians to sleep and the musicians and singers supplied the soothing music with lyrics that often teach more of what God isn’t than what God is.  “It Is Well, With My Soul”  Is it well?

When judgement does come, who will be able to stand?

Oh, but Bro. Prentice, you don’t understand, the rapture will take place before that!

The rapture didn’t save Jeroboam or Amaziah.  It didn’t keep Isaiah from being sawn in half, in fact, it didn’t keep Peter from being crucified upside down.  It didn’t keep Muslims from throwing Christian believers into a fire in Africa.  It didn’t stop Chinese Christians from being gunned down in the streets, it didn’t stop the Chinese Communists from drowning a Christian pastor in a stock tank filled with human urine.  These acts of hate are happening all over the world.  What makes American so sure that it will not strike here also.

Matt 24:29-30,Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:  And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.”

The first 28 verses speak of what is going to happen, most likely, before any rapture will take place, but these two verses tell what is going to happen next.  I can see some really hard times coming against these lukewarm and professing who really aren’t Christians at all, and the lukewarm churches of the 21st century.  If we as a fellowship of believers do not start proclaiming the truth without reservation, we are most likely going to lose one or two generations of people/souls.  If we lose two generations, we have lost all.

I can see a lot of people turning away from Christ because of trials, tribulation and hard times because someone had sold them a bill of goods that they were going to be exempt.

I can see people like a pastor in Arkansas City, KS who refused to go to the park service because it MIGHT be a failure and he didn’t want to be seen as a sponsor or participant in a flop.

It was not a failure but rather a great victory and he missed it entirely.

Folks, Jesus IS coming again, and He is coming for a Church, He is not coming for a congregation.  He is coming for a people that is fired up, prayed up and ready to go through all Hell to get up.

People today think they are in great distress when they have a health hiccup, a financial interruption, or their car/pickup breaks down.  How about the Christians who have a sudden life disruption?  How about the Christians who lose their family for no other reason than being a Christian?  Lose their job for being a Christian?  Tortured for being a Christian?  And yet some feel like their faith is being tested when the A/C is too cold, or the heat is not warm enough.

How about the one who suffer silently sitting in a church pew and would love to see a Christian rise up and come to their aid, but instead finds bench warmers that occupy the seats INSIDE churches all over the country and don’t even know the name of the person sitting across the aisle?

How about the ones who do not know Jesus as Lord and Savior and are literally dying to find hope?

How many times have you seen people come to the altar right here to receive Jesus as Lord and Savior that you were totally blown away when they stepped up?  Or do you even remember the last time someone came forward?  How many have you personally introduced to Jesus in the last month?  How about in the last 5 years?

That should be a yearly, monthly or weekly if not that often, then a daily occurrence. I am just as guilty as the rest.

Now, I can almost guarantee that there are some here that fall into at least one of the categories of either saved and not doing anything for Christ, saved and doing everything possible for Christ, or not saved at all and struggling spiritually and physically, looking for help and not finding it.

For those who have not accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior, accepting Jesus as Lord will not solve all your problems, but it will give you light at the end of your tunnel of absolute darkness.
