A bit of fun

Somewhere in Australia deep in the bush I think

A kangaroo named Joe was looking for a drink.

Parched as he was he continued to search

Not knowing that soon he’d stumble on a church.

Rounding a bend, there it stood, tall and shiny

Wonderful he thought, they’re bound to have a winery.

He straightened his pouch, kicked dirt off his feet

It would really be great to get out of this heat.

He knocked on the door as hard as he could

It was opened at once by a man in a hood.

He looked at Joe and whispered quite low

I’ve seen you somewhere - The Rolf Harris show?

Joe was quite embarrassed it’s a kangaroo trait

No, it wasn’t me he said, it was my old mate.

His name was Skippy, a roo of some fame

How he fell from grace was really a shame.

He’s living in the outback, a victim of drink

Learning his lesson, well that’s what you’d think.

But he’s still on the gin, several bottles a day

He has lost all his jump and his skips gone away.

The man in the cloak wiped tears from his eyes

It’s a sad way to end, but not a surprise.

He acted so strange, and looked very weird

It was over the top when he grew a red beard.

So when you get down to the real nitty gritty

Nobody wants you, and that’s a great pity.

Remember my friend when you knock on this door

It’s now time to go I can’t chat any more.

Joe turned away feeling rejected and bitter

One glass of water I’d’ve felt a lot fitter.

If this is what happens when you tangle with a monk

I’ll stay in the outback. Live life as a drunk.
