In a world where demons lurk in the shadows and paladins of the light draw them out, Joan Thomas finds herself stuck in the middle of an ancient war where scheming and betrayal run rampant on both sides. Heartbroken of a love lost, and trusting the wrong person means death, Joan discovers unlikely allies in a demon who may have an agenda of his own and a paladin who might just heal her wounded heart. With both sides closing in, Joan is forced to make a decision that will change her fate and turn the tide of the war in either favor.

Moving forward i would like to inform readers that Call of the Dark focuses on a few characters from their own perspective which will either start at the beginning of the chapter, or inform you of
the change via asterisks (***). I know this chapter itself is ripe with an abundance of new characters, words and supernatural actions that may feel awkward. Please bare with me. Joan's story is
just beginning.

Day One

The demon Afradat is very much my favorite character to write. Although Joan is the protagonist, Afradat steals the scene in nearly every part of the book he's in. His sense of humor is identical
to mine. I hope you guys enjoy reading him as much as I did writing him.

The Opportunity

. In the chapter we begin to see the relationship dynamic between Joan and Afradat begin to change from cat and mouse to protector and protected and while I loved writing Afradat as Joan's
tormentor, it was much more rewarding to begin fleshing out their budding friendship. This chapter is also one of the longest in the entire book. As we get to see if there's anything special about
Daniel or not.
