Unfurling

Flamingoes,

salmon pink,

they stand there

face-to-face;

one leg straight

the other bent.

Spectacular birds,

they might well be

but this pair

have a surprise

hidden within their wings.

As feathers unfurl,

those wings are

slowly, surely

revealed

inch by inch,

as white, yellow,

orange, peach...

and don’t forget

that salmon pink,

butterfly wings.

Is it likely that such

delicate things

could lift those birds

from off the ground?

Or are these flamingoes

destined to flutter

but never to fly?

Christy Writes

I've always thought flamingoes are colored beautifully. It's rare to find pink animals, so they definitely stand out. But it would be terrifying if they could fly, they're so big lol. Great work, Hully!
