Parallel Lives
Looking back
On how our time together
Played out
I wish I could have seen ahead
An empty room here
Is as barren
As an empty room there
Abject loneliness shouldn’t be fed
I had no idea how much
You wouldn’t be missing me
Or how badly I’d be missing you
Each day we’re apart
Takes a toll on my heart
Each empty sunrise
Emphasizes the distance
A darkness
So stark and so true
Were we broken before?
Are we broken now?
At this point I really can’t tell
You’re stuck there
On the other side of dawn
Beyond the twenty-fifth parallel
