Dad It's funny how life denied me that opportunity

The opportunity to call you Dad

Out of the blue here you are

No text and absolutely no phone call

Where were you Dad When I opened my eyes for the first time

Hoping to see you and mum side by side

Where were you

Where were you Dad

To change my nappies

And tug me to sleep

To toss me up in the air whenever I cried

Where were you Dad

When mum walked me for the first time to school

Proudly wearing my new uniform and school shoes

Anxious to play with other kids

Where were you when I had my first fight

Where were you to teach me wrong from right

Mum had to do it all

She would cry;scream and talk to me all night long

While all I needed was guidance from your firm voice

Daddy I am not angry at all

I forgive you

When you were not there from the start

I promised myself not to be the man that you chose to be

Where were you Dad could you please just tell me that

It hurts so much knowing you were alive

But dead in my life

Were you ashamed of me 20 years dow the line that's two full centuries

Where were you dad

When I needed you to pick me up after school

Where you could be like any other father bonding with their kid

Walking hand in hand around the neighbour hood to buy ice cream

How could you deny me all of that

You denied me the chance to praise you in front of my peers

You denied me the chance to say I love you daddy

As you read out to me the story of barbie before I go to sleep

Or the story of the amazing Spiderman

I was never in search for a perfect parent

I was after your love but you shut me out

I just need closure

All I wanted was to be close to you That all remained a dream Daddy please just answer this question Where were you dad?

So full of unanswered questions. The longing for answers was very clear.
