As Emily walked into the kitchen, she could hear the grinder roar loudly, the toaster sneezing out the bread, and the spoons screaming as they fell on the floor. The kitchen looked like a disaster, and the culprit for this mess was no other than her brother Mike.

Mike was trying to make something “special”  for their mom. How many times had she told him that he shouldn’t follow just any recipe. Not all of them are right, but would a boy who despises his sister listen? Emily looked around to see how much of a mess he made, just so she knew how much she had to clean up. What she saw was a disaster. The vegetables that were supposed to boil, were burnt because the stove was on a high sim, the pans in the sink were sizzling as they were rained over by a splash of cold water. Emily looked to see that her brother was having what appeared to be a staring contest with the oven. As Mike noticed her staring at him, he got up with a hump on his back and a feeling of sorrow on his face. He knew he had done something wrong, and that Emily was going to get mad. He said, "I'm sorry, I was just trying to make something nice for mom, I wanted to surprise her after she came back from the trip." It was true that their mom was coming back today, and Emily had not prepared anything for her, she looked at her watch to see it was 3:00 already! Her mom's flight would be landing in 2 hours. Then, Emily had the most brilliant idea, " You want to make something for mom right?", " Yeah,” Mike replied, " You see I haven't made anything for mom yet, but what if you and I work together and make something for her, we can make a nice dish  and decorate the house a bit.", " Well, it's clear that I need some help in the kitchen so, yeah we should do that. Anyways, the more the merrier said Mike. Emily was so happy that Mike agreed to that, or else she would have been very disappointed with herself for not even remembering to make a card for her mom, although her mom didn't have any expectations, Emily still had to do something. " Why don't you start blowing some balloons while I clean up this mess," she said. Mike agreed, there was no way he could clean all of that on his own, and so the siblings went along with their work. After some time, once Emily finished cleaning up the kitchen, the pot and pans, etc. She decided to ask Mike for help. " Okay, so I was thinking we could make mom's favourite pasta, she hasn't-", " that's a great idea!" Mike said. " So why don't you start by cutting the vegetables, and I'll start boiling the pasta"  No one knows what went through Mike's head, he decided to grab a plat and as he grabbed one from the pile, 2 of the top plates came chattering down, " Firstly, why are you grabbing a plate? and secondly, why couldn't you take the top one?", " The top ones are smaller so I decided to take the big-", " well, that's why you remove the stuff from the top, grab the stuff you need, and put the things back" Although Emily was disappointed, she couldn't do anything about it. After Emily was done with the pasta, she decided to make her mom's favourite lavender tea, while Mike was still chopping veggies. She filled the tea kettle with water and put it on the stove where the flames hugged it. Once they were done in the kitchen, they started decorating the house with balloons and flowers. Emily thought it was quite fun because there was teasing, balloons popping, and both of them enjoyed it. Once all of this was done, they got ready to go pick up their mom. They were so happy to see her after a month, it seemed so long! Once they sat down in the car to head home, the three of them talked about their lives, about all the achievements Emily and Mike got while their mom was gone, etc. Once the three arrived home, it was almost like their mom had frozen when she saw the inside of the house, she was so astounded. Once she sat down, the tea kettle started to whistle, and it was perfect timing because she was starving, so Mike decided to shut their mom's eyes while Emily served the pasta and the lavender tea, their mom was so shocked and happy, and once she tried it, she loved it. The only words that came out of her mouth were"This is so delicious, and you know what the best part of this was, you guys finally worked together!"
