A poem of the times

Run and Hide, My Love

Run and hide, my love

Quiver at the thought of my touch
Of my sigh upon your cheek
Should our lips meet
I will steal your breath away
And with it, the words you would speak
Lay still, my love
And you may survive me yet
To wander the vast lands, traverse oceans deep
The birds in flight
The trees and the rippling fields
May they dance and rejoice while you sleep
Rest, my love
Take your eye from that kaleidoscope lense
To gaze upon an unmolested world, it’s true guise,
I despair, you fool.
Your podgy hands clasped over your ears
Can you not bear the truth? Seduced by your own lies
And so you return
Like rats to their runs, you stream
Vectors of misery, your own demise
Your fleas have names
‘Privilege’, ‘Righteousness’ and ‘Greed’
And you carry them upon your back with such care
They will bite and suck
Until they have consumed you whole
Then die, bloated and spent from the fare
And, without you there,
The shame will be too much to bear.
