Autumn Tree in Streetlight
Scalloped edges frayed by yellow glare,
A fringe of thread.
Did you know Chantilly Lace was black?
Every night the warp and weft
of the tree widens.
Its branches are cutouts left over from Halloween.
Now the tree as bare as the street lamps.
Except for a layer of lichen,
And that needle bobbin promise.
