olivia plum, a uni student, had a special person in her life, a dark figure that for some reason only she could see, it would whisper in her ear at any chance it got. that all changed one day, it all fell apart for olivia in that moment

Waking up with a jolt, the red numbers blaring into her barely open eyes, 10:37 AM,  she was late for her class, by a mile, deciding to email her teacher and call it a day went through her head time and time again. Finally, Olivia gave in and emailed her teacher seeing as though it was that only class for the day. After hitting send, Olivia leant back in her chair, that’s when it hit Olivia. It was silent, too quiet. Looking around she couldn’t see it like she usually would.

Leaving the dorm room, she headed out onto the streets hoping that it would appear to make a remark about a stranger or just a general comment. But nothing happened. Not even a quick glance in the corner of her eyes

Deciding that now she was outside that she may as way go about her day, she bought some food for the fridge and freezer, but her thoughts were taken over by not being able to see the dark figure that would normally loom over her shoulder whispering in her ear, always following her around. Always.

Finishing her errands of that day, she took her time in walking back to the dorms, trying to find the cause of her anxiety that was eating her alive at this point. Unfortunately, for Oliva, she got home quicker than she wanted, planning to put the food in their place then head back out to look again. But the world seemed to have other plans for Olivia Plum.

Opening her door, there was a slight hum in the air, seeing that her roommates weren’t going to be back from their day until later in the evening, she knew it couldn’t be them. Walking in, anxiety and fear running through her vein, carrying her keys in between her knuckles, preparing herself for the worst of what could be causing the now loud humming noise. Following the noise, it seemed to be the loudest stood outside her bedroom door. The feeling of doubt filled her lungs, turning away she walked out, and jogged down the many stairs to try and get rid of the adrenaline that was currently pumping through her veins like a waterfall. Pushing the door to the apartment block, she rushed into the mildly busy street that was full of students getting their late lunches and meeting up with their friends. That’s when she seen it. It was lying on its side facing away from her, almost like it was waiting to be spotted, looking around frantically Olivia began walking towards it, luckily it was in a spot where not many people were, choosing to sit a little ahead of it she lifted her head to see it was looking directly back at her. The dark figure she had known all her life, looked scared and sad, which wasn’t seen ever.

Olivia studied the figure’s form and realized it was clutching its stomach. Its lip trembling as it had tried to form a sentence.

“Olivia you need to run!” it stated weakly. Confused Olivia had opened her mouth to get a word out but was interrupted by it screaming back in fear and looking behind Olivia.

“RUN OLIVIA, DON’T LOOK BACK, RUN AWAY FROM HERE”

Fear shot through Olivia’s veins, as she stood up, the figure had weakly thrown something her way, not wasting a second Olivia picked it up and ran like her life depended on it. The feeling of being watched by something other than the people watching as she ran past them. Getting to the crossroad, she quickly turned her head back just to take a glance, regret filled her brain, the tears now overflowing blocking her vision entirely

The dark figure she had known all her life, was being held up by the neck, having its life drained out of its body. Its head turned to look at her, and Olivia’s blood ran cold, having the only thought ‘run’ etched into her brain, soon as the lights turned red she ran, her legs burning as she made it into her dorm and frantically packing a bag. As she had zipped up, her palm started to burn, quickly she dropped the object she had forgotten she had been holding. After watching it roll around the floor, she examined it from a far not knowing what it was for. Quick flashbacks of the dark figure throwing it her way passed through her mind. Without thinking much of it, she picked it up and shoved it into her bag as fast as she could, hearing the hum again almost like it was making its way towards her.

Olivia held her breath as she shoved on her coat, flung her bag over her shoulders and grabbed her car keys, having no time to leave a not to her roommates, she left, not wanting to put her trust into the electrical device known as a lift. Heading towards the very bottom floor, she desperately tried to find her car. After what felt like an hour, she had located her car and scrambled in, throwing her bag in the seat beside her, she drove out of the car park

The little familiar voice in her head telling her to head straight onto the motorway and drive until she hits Junction 17.
