Does a belief in an afterlife bring people comfort during their time of grief?

And Then There Were None

by Tammi Fitzpatrick

One cruel outcome unexpected
One departure hastily elected
Accidental casualty, betrayed by bad choices
The past and the darkness smother their voices

Discovered in a bedroom behind a locked door
Found in a bathroom laid out on the floor
On the edge of a bed in the arms of a son
In a hospital room, and then there were none

Threads of chaos tangled up in the mind
Searching for sense, hoping to find
A reason, a response, a justification
Pleas gone unanswered, lost in translation

Veiled and transient, their tarriance is brief
Cryptic messages to help soothe your grief
I'm sorry, I'm happy, I'm cured,  I'm at peace
That wasn't goodbye. It's ok to release

Regardless of how I wound up in this place
It's inconsequential, for I have found grace
I know it caused heartbreak, anguish, despair
But you can still talk to me for I am right there

I hear you, I see you, you're never alone
I'm real and I'm with you, not with my gravestone
Be brave, be strong, live your life, carry on
For I have not left you, I am not gone.
