The Titanic

April 14-15th, 1912 was a nightmare all together… the most perfect and beautiful voyage became a horror story as the clock struck midnight. The Beauty with the name The Titanic set sail on April 10th, 1912. There was a total of 2,208 people onboard the ship. The people on this vessel were hoping for a better life. Everything was going fine until the night of April 14th when they entered a field of ice. They had many warnings of ice earlier on, but by the time they saw it, they did not have enough time to reverse the ship. Movies about the titanic tend to focus on a romantic love story but fail to look at those whose lives were lost during the horrifying sinking of the beautiful vessel.

The Titanic was one of the deadliest disasters in history that quickly became a catalyst for change. Because of this tragedy the U.S. has taken many precautions going forward and improved the safety a lot. The focus of the movies based off the titanic were to show people the tragedy that took place on the night of April 14th leading into the 15th. Most of the movies are remarkably close to what happened however many factors are added in. In my opinion, “A night to remember” is the best movie to show what occurred. Downton abbey 1st episode shows how the people were affected when they heard of the tragedy. The devastation on peoples faces was so upsetting to see. The Titanic movie 1996 is ok but its more based towards a classic love story. I am sure there was romance on the ship however, the 1996 film pulls us away from the actual disturbance. The movie was made to show what happened on the 14th and 15th. Of course, they were not 100% correct but no one could be totally accurate, and they satisfied the peoples entertainment.

The Titanic movie is fairly accurate. The director James Cameron did a lot of research in preparation for his movie The Titanic. It is not possible to have a completely accurate based movie or mindset without being there. Some things that were accurate was the story of Molly Brown who was a passenger, asking the officers if they could help those in the water. Another fact in the movie that we know to be true is that the band played as the ship went down, not one of the band members survived. Along with the accuracies there are also however many inaccuracies. A few things portrayed in the movie that did not actually happen was that the 3rd class passengers were not locked below deck like the film shows, they were free to roam as they wished. During the sinking of the vessel there were no other ships nearby… the sister ship known as The Carpathia was about two hours out from The Titanic. Another factor to keep in mind is that in all reality it would not have taken so long for the water to take effect on freezing people; the water at this time was 28 degrees Fahrenheit. Women also would not have worn as much makeup as portrayed in the movies unless they wanted to make a radical statement. Officer Murdoch was a real man on The Titanic… He however was not shooting people in real life in fact he was helping people and is known as a hero. Last, one of the biggest failures in the movie is the phrase everyone knows, “The Titanic is unsinkable, not even God himself could sink the ship” this is a myth its just in the movie to make a better story. Many of these inaccuracies that were portrayed in these movies were for people’s enjoyment. They were placed in the movies just to make the tragedy sound better.

The portrayals that were inaccurate in the movies most people today believe. Most people do not question the events in The Titanic because they believe the majority of its accurate. The only part of the movie that is 100% accurate is that there was a ship named The Titanic that hit an iceberg and sunk taking down many lives with it. The movie The Titanic has a huge impact on society. It gives us a feeling like were there because of all the action. However, we will never be able to picture exactly what happened that night. States have put many new safety protocols in place since the ship went down. All ships regardless of how good they are, are required to have the right amount of safety equipment for every passenger.

April 15th, 1912 at 2:18 am is a day that no one will ever forget. People might not talk about it as much as they used to, but everyone knows a lot about it. A lot of people went to there forever home that night and I am sure heaven had a party. For those who were brave and went down with the ship there is a memorial dedicated to the 1,500 lives lost located in Southwest WA. D.C. The journey from South Ampton to New York had to end early unfortunately but Jesus gained a lot of angels that night and they will never be forgotten.
