Xiang Yang is a poet, a literature critic, and a painter. He publishes with Mandarin or Taiwanese language. In 1979 Xiang Yang co-founded a poetry journal “Collection of Sunlight”, which marked several controversial incidents in the recent history of Taiwan’s literature.

Xiang Yang had been the editor-in-chief of Independent Evening News, Independent Daily, and a columnist for the Liberty Times. He was the recipient of the National Award for Young Poets(1977), National Award of Arts(1984), and the Gold Metal of Taiwan Literature(2007), among many other awards.

Currently Xiang Yang is the Deputy Secretary-General of the Wu San-Lien Foundation, which gives awards to writers, artists, and musicians annually.
