How can I be alone in this dark world,

Though shadows creep o’er all that’s good and right?

When o’er the Earth dark curtains are unfurl’d

Then one by one I see the rising lights.

Though small, these candles wax, refuse to wane,

Press back the fabric of oppressing doom.

These lonely little candles courage feign

To light the wanderer’s way to safer home

And yet, at times these lights so distant seem

The darkness threats to overtake my dream.

Fantastic! Great imagery and I spotted the iambic pentameter straight away. Well crafted. It's good to see that some poets take time and care to construct their verse.
