As it was with the origin of faith among the human beings of ancient Earth, the native people of North America found nature to be a source of confident and strong spirituality.
'Nature is of purity and truth' so is mankind as a part of the natural world. We belong to the Earth, she is our mother, this is the foundation of Native American spiritual concept.
The close connection of human beings in relation to the Earth created a reverance and respect for what was provided. But, no 'God' was reveared or prayed to.
Animals also posessed spirits and were considered individual beings with unique qualities. Bear, Buffalo, Eagle and others represented various ideas in relation to human existence, the early people also looked to them to learn of life in totality.
For the native people, the sacred was not for a chosen few, it surrounded everything and was a part of all human beings.
In times of uncertainty of this truth, the idea could be realized again if sought, through sunrise and sunset and the ground beneath your feet.
This all encompassing saying speaks to the heart of Native American spirituality:
IN THIS HOUSE OF HAPPINESS
THERE I WANDER
BEAUTY BEFORE ME
WITH IT I WANDER
BEAUTY BELOW ME
WITH IT I WANDER
BEAUTY ABOVE ME
WITH IT I WANDER
BEAUTY ALL AROUND ME
WITH IT I WANDER
IN OLD AGE TRAVELING
WITH IT I WANDER
ON THE BEAUTIFUL TRAIL I AM
WITH IT I WANDER.

It seems strange that our ancestors all around the world were very in tune with nature and spirituality, and then seemingly just forgot about it and became more obsessed with materialistic things, and began to abuse the world and its richness and started destroying it. Its a crying shame, we have turned out to be a destructive race, when we could so easily have gone the other way and become carers of our world.

I completely agree. Along with it dying out, their spiritual way of existence was being stripped from them through the introduction of invasive God dominant religion such as Christianity. Its a part of American history through the European invasion of the continent. Thank you for your comment Celtic-Scribe
