Diminished To Soul

My body is the temple of my soul.
Responding like the baker’s dough to the touch.
Reacting to its rising, and its falling.
Reacting to the subtle changes, and the pain.
Rigid, unrelenting, persevering,
ignoring, changing.
Dark like the ancient dough with seven grains.
Pale like the white bleached flour used indiscriminately
in todays automatic blending.
The changes are subtle, unnoticed
until expansion
dictates extreme modification to habit.
A tender response, movement, time,
advanced nutrients and caring, bring change.
But, the inevitable disintegration
leaves only the soul.
