Lake Parties
A Favorite Outing

After work Friday, co-workers often set out to one of the Forestry Parks to camp. Since they are rough-type parks, with few amenities, providing your wood supply is necessary. So we packed a box full as well as camping gear; groceries. Most people now have RVs, or trucks and canoes we always just “roughed it” in a tent. Most of the small lakes don’t allow motorized boats anymore.

The weather has cooled off now — it is almost fall. Before it becomes evening, we all gather at a group campsite, as soon as possible, to set up our tents.
We have great conversations between the adults, games for the kids; some hot apple cider when the darkness and chill disperse. Games are organized, and we like to play baseball until it is too hazy to see the ball anymore.

All the food is thrown together for a giant buffet and we have our feast, along with the occasional hot dog, which we roast after we have whittled a stick to hold it. Then, there are marshmallows, which are toasted lightly on coals that are left of the first roaring fire.
………………………………………………………………………………………
As the darkness comes, we go swimming in clear water that has been warmed by the day’s hot sun. We’re having a great time, and keep the conversation going until we are too tired to talk anymore.

Morning comes early and the first one rising gets the fire started. As before, we throw together what we have for our breakfast, before carrying on home. These weekends are the favourite in my life and will continue to be involved as long as my age will allow.
