(10) The Boy with a Three-Legged Dog
During my daily walk,
I stop wanting to talk,
Admiring a boy & his dog.
How he’s able to roam and log
Freely those extra miles while lean
Eye keep to a daily routine.
Until his dog hops on three legs
With his entire life pully on pegs!
Not knowing his state of mind, I
Dare not approach to nomad why?
Living on reefs and yelp,
Has he orphaned self?
Why doesn’t he ask for help?
Low key to develop…
I move in for a closer look
With roadside wrinkles and scrapbook,
He shakes his head in defiance.
His cut jeans show self-reliance.
His baseball cap hides a blotched face.
The boy hauling barks now has aged.

New Alliterative Verse has five set parameters defined by me:
1. A couplet line poem with 20 lines or less
2. Each line contained no more than eight syllables
3. Each line has alliteration of either consonant or vowel
4. The alliteration must be tied to the next line (hence couplet)
5. Rhymed or unrhymed
Adopted from the skalds of Norway. Skalds were the Viking's poet-musicians
and their poetic form began somewhere in the 9th Century.
