My greatest tribulations,
created the warrior I’ve become.

I repaired the damage that no one had ever seen
and made peace with the secrets that no one ever knew.

I assumed the healing was done,
that the process was complete
until I met you,
and learned that some of my greatest growth
required someone to be my mirror to help me see my own wounds clearer.

Ours were just alike.
Your stories, just like mine.

All we ever wanted was to feel loved and needed,
significant in uniquely sacred ways that defied the mundane.

If it were up to me,
I would've done things differently,
but I had to pass through the gates of hell, to get to you.

So here I am— refined and far wiser
from the mistakes that taught me how to appreciate a good man in ways,
that I couldn't have before.
