I went through a number of years where I suffered from suicidal depression. Afterwards, I wrote this poem to remind me that no matter how hard life gets, there are always things worth living for.

Imagine what you would not see

If you chose to die:

The sun setting as God paints

The gold and scarlet sky.

Think of what you could not hear

If from life you flee:

Songbirds singing hymns of praise

From an emerald tree.

Remember what you cannot do

If your life you stop:

Watching Stars light up the sky

From a calm hilltop.

Reflect on what you could not feel

If you cease to be:

Sand and waves upon your feet

By the sapphiral sea.

Ponder where you will not go

If living you find vile:

White cliffs of Dover, Rome and Spain,

Stonehenge, the Emerald Isle.

Consider what you won't receive

If life you grow sick of:

Affection, friendship, honoring,

And greatest of all, Love.
