Victory?

This feeling...

it’s not one that I’m familiar with.

Accomplishment!

I don’t need to hear

a single cheer,

don’t need other’s to validate

what I know that I begun

and against all odds

saw it through

to it’s bitter end.

And there’s the crunch;

the crux of the matter,

for I might have made it

to the finish line

but it’s left one bitter aftertaste.

Stars in the darkness

leading away from me,

and on each side there’s a shadow,

a ghost of a victor’s laurels

that should not be there.

I blink them away from existence

for in this race,

this battle,

there is no winner’s glory

just loss,

defeat.

You have to admit

that we are both

losers

now.
