Rainbow

Once upon a time there was a rainbow;
a band of color bowed across the sky.
It appeared like magic as the sun broke through clouds
that were gray and full of rain still left to cry.

The color ribbons arched down to the tree line.
Sunbeams grew between clouds revealing blue.
The space between the rain drops grew wider as they fell.
The drops themselves grew smaller and more few.

The sun shone bright and the air began to warm.
The rainbow’s promise of renewal had been made.
The clouds moved on as they will do and, of course,
the rainbow too, it’s deep and vivid hues began to fade.

But, there’s something more I’ll tell you now;
Something else that you should know
of rainbows and of leprechauns;
of imagined pots and gold.

Imagine that your dreams are your true treasures
and follow on the road that takes you down.
It’s a long way from beginning to the end as stories go,
this adventure of a life on which we’re bound.
