The Perfect Poem

I tried to create the perfect poem

I didn’t know from where my inspiration would come

I wanted it to be just right

So I stayed up for most of the night

I searched my mind for ideas and subjects

But everything I thought would work became quick rejects

I didn’t want to write about love

And I didn’t want to write about pain

I didn’t want to write about the sunshine or the rain

I just wanted the perfect poem

Finally I grew tired and decided to rest

Turn in for the night I thought that to be best

So before I went to sleep

I prayed and gave thanks

As I closed my eyes I came to realize that just like my paper

In the beginning the world was blank

It was in the dark

Devoid of light

It hit me then like a ton of bricks

That the perfect poem is life!

See, God spoke of the creation of life before it was seen

Yes, just like my paper the earth was barren it was clean

Until our God scooped up some water and poured it on earth

And ordered the world to bring forth a birth

Of plants and animals

Even the creeping crawling things

He made his best creature last

The human being

And I sat up in bed and marveled at these thoughts

God created the Perfect Poem for

He’s the Perfect Poet!

Then I went to sleep with a great sense of joy to know

That from all the things from the sky to the ocean

I can proudly claim

That man is

Poetry in motion

Beautifully inspired and written. At first, I thought I could relate to the process. Could relate to praying over it and the gratitude. The rest was a true gift from God, working through you! :)

Nice! I see you are listening. --- Isn't it amazing how inspiration comes during those times when "The Still-quiet Voice" whispers?"
