Sonogram

Who would suspect

The shrimp shaped silhouette,

Clinging avidly for life and safety

Would occasion rainbow flowers

Tears of joy and sadness

Sleep starved nights

And days of playful frolic?

The convex forehead holds within it

Truth and vitality,

Monsoon rains and lightning.

When ebon evening wanes

And nimbus skies are cleared

I remember your fragile promise

Held within the hollow of a hand

Joy and pain in two dimensions

Too easily erased.
