Respect an Afterthought

A Free-Form Poem

A narrow roadway cracked with use and ridden with obstacles.

A cart overflowing with all her valuables.

A large coffee, chilled by frosty nights.

A typical “work of art” example of fine ink and brush

no longer appreciated.

In a cart for shopping, she

scrounges, rather than spends.

A ragged pillow and quilt convert

to a make-shift bed

above street vents, or

a dry corner.

A child sold,for a families survival

leaves and unused ball.

A collection of books and games

Perhaps a veteran, or the men that gamble at

Mahjong might use.

These are the treasures of the poor.

A powerful piece of poetry. So many would never dare to think that this could ever happen to them.

Thanks for your comments. Most are one paycheck from poverty, it should make us more empathetic.
