I've just finished the first chapter and I'm tugged to read on. But it is Sunday night and I must get up at 5:30 for work, so I'm going to have to come back to read more later in the week.
But for starters, every single paragraph is very descriptive; you successfully set the scene. I'm suspecting that the doctor is "The Mournful Wanderer"?? I don't want to know...I want to read. The only thing that puzzles me, is your use of the word "chamber". She lives in a "chamber"? In a bedroom within his house?? Wonderfully written! I'm intrigued, and will definitely read on!

I am of the opinion that this is just as much literary fiction as general thriller, which is a pleasant surprise. Plenty of purple prose to whet any traditional/classical reader's appetite. Alice seems very mysterious, which adds to the suspense of what she might witness next.
