I wrote this poem for one of my good friends who struggles with depression. I see her as such a strong and amazing person but her depression really puts her down and takes away her confidence. To me it's a tale as old as time but something beautiful in the struggle nonetheless.

One day a weakened girl came down, thinking things that weren't so sound. She had a demon inside her head,
a demon of undeniable dread.
Her thoughts so sour to the taste,
her mind a battle, in which she must face.

Alone she walks with this putrid stain, within her mind a lonely bane. Saddened by the world she sees,
lost across these maddened seas,
a waste of sickening thoughts to bring, a wicked devilish packed rancid sting.

One war to fight,
one simple plight,
but so many demons within her sight.

Sick with sorrow,
sick with pain,
sick with nothing left to gain,
engulfed by a large black cloud of shame.

A tale that's told, as old as time,
an epic battle in its prime,
but in the end she will win this war, because she's dealt with this before.

It's nothing new,
it's no breakthrough,
for she will know just what to do.
For now she knew that when it rains,
a beacon of light will guide the way, shining on a safe facade,
where a stronger woman shall remain, scuplted from lessons learned from pain.
