This poem is an hyperbolic allusion to being burned out by the overwhelming expectations of society

I resign.

No longer can I continue to be something non- human.

I resign!

I give up on the populous's grandiose expectations of me.

I miss who I used to be before I became more super than man.

I'm drawing a line In the sand, I don't want to fly anymore,  I want to land.

Everytime I defeat my demons, they simply reappear and sometimes as my peers and despite my power, I live in constant fear.

I refuse to fight a pointless fight, so

I resign!

My light has faded

I refuse to transmute the sun's pervasive heat into useful fortitude

I only wish to sit in the shade and protection of my fortress of solitude.

Damnit! I resign!

I no longer have the strength to stand in opposition so I will sit in patient deposition and finally take off my disguise and give my true self recognition.

I hope you can forgive my reposition but my enervation is beyond comprehension. Now, somehow, we all have to accept that this is superman's resignation.

I resign.

A brilliant poem!!! 'Bout time the Man of Steel took an indefinite sabbatical. One demon who really scares him is . . . Doomsday - physically stronger. I'm talking about comic book Doomsday, not the FrankenZod from the movie, I will not mention. I think you're also alluding to Nietzsche's Beyond-Man and the pressures of this ideal in a man-made world split by too many waring factions. A sense of global apathy, I think, plays a big part of hanging up one's costume.

Thank you for your comment! I was alluding to almost exactly that and the superman comics especially "superman grounded" were big inspirations for this one.

It's tough being the go to guy for all the troubles in the world. It will play on your mind. Just like every day life. You need to step back and see the whole picture

A well written, interesting and thought provoking poem. However, I am left wondering if this resignation is you surrendering and embracing your demons? Resignation does not necessarily translate into rest. Is this a situation of "you might as well join them if you can't fight them?"

Thank you for your comment! I believe that whatever you conclude is what it should be. I personally saw it as more of surrendering to this unrealistic ideal of what the world expects someone to be just to be seen as successful. Relinquishing your title as everyone else's hero and becoming your own, to a sense.

Thank you for your comment! I think that is all the more reason to resign. Human toxic codependency on one "superman" or "supermen" (and/or women) is what got us here. If we tried to be our own heroes more often, we wouldn't need super humans to come save us as much. This made me laugh though, so thank you

I like your poem, Mingo. It is refreshing to hear that superman has days and thoughts just like the rest of us.

I was once very eager to point out other people's mistakes and correct them. But I gave that up. I might give someone a hint now and then, but sometimes you have to let them pay the price of their mistakes in order to learn from them.
