One opening. One opening of a door was the start of a new chapter in Vaughan and Ariana's lives. It was quite something that they would remember forever. Such an unusual sight could seldom be replicated in the kingdom of Silverton. Two paupers with blank facial expressions on their faces were accompanied by one of the wealthiest and most important people in the entire kingdom. Everyone who already started to dine stopped what they were doing immediately out of pure shock and interest as to what was going on. Their very souls slipped right out of their eyes, which were bereft of any emotion that might have been kept in them. They all looked like porcelain dolls, untouched and gentle, each one of them with their own story.

The silence in the room had a stark contrast with the beauty of it all. Everyone was wearing the finest clothes and the fanciest gloves, and it was obvious that they took good care of their hygiene, but the smaller details mattered more to them. The kitchen was grand and glamorous, but all the shiny stuff was rather stereotypical for a rich family to have. The silver dishes and the crystals and the portraits of the most significant members of the King family had no soul. All of them were superficial and had no important story to tell. On the other side, just a single red rose in the glass vase in the middle of the table could talk about its experiences for hours on end. Those roses had more purity and life in themselves than anything or anyone in the kitchen. One could tell that the gardener was truly dedicated to their job.

"The night is nearing, my dear friends and guests, ladies and gentlemen, adults and children. We shall not be too late for anything that we must do, and we shall not let this drag on. You may sit now, welcomed visitors", Lady Adelaide said firmly while smiling brighter than a pearl. Vaughan stared at her, trying to see whether that smile was forced or not. It wasn't forced until she started to feel that he was staring at her for too long, and it was when she started to smile like a serial killer. Ariana nudged him with a nasty look, making him sit opposite Adelaide and next to her.

Ariana kept glaring at him before speaking. "Okay, what was that?", she whispered, "You could have ruined our reputation! What if you already have? That would be disastrous! Unbelievable! Unspeakable!"

"What would she do? Sip tea with her friends and tell them that we're not worthy of their company?", he whispered back in a dark voice, laughing quietly and lifelessly. Even though it wasn't too obvious, he was not trying to turn this situation into a joke but to hide his worries instead. The life of a poor musician in the Kingdom of Silverton wasn't an easy one, but who would expect to have to earn the liking of a group of rich people while running from gangsters? There was not a person, not a single one that he met in his life full of travelling that he knew thought like that. His worries were standing above him like a shadow in all their power and tallness, following him everywhere he went, and as far as he knew, everything has just started.

Adelaide's eyes were gleaming with excitement as she looked at them, as opposed to her serious facial expression. "It's quite an interesting conversation that you're having, isn't it? Would you like to share your thoughts and concerns with us?", she inquired, but the siblings did not respond. The overpowering silence said more than their words ever could, and no one wanted that night to turn into a bad one, so they all started to eat.

The cooks all did an impressive job, as proved by just how much everyone was indulging in eating. A lot of people in the room simply swallowed every bite they took, for they were eating only to not have to talk. The experience was already unpleasant, which even a blind person could sense. Then, much to everyone else's surprise, Adelaide stood up from the table, gesturing Vaughan to do the same, and he followed her, having absolutely no idea as to what was going on.
