Cold Azure Eyes

Every day I hear her cool voice,

Iced blue tones, cold, disinterested.

Down the years slides the cold blue echo,

Giving me no peace, no rest,

No ultimate reason to rejoice.

In trembling hope I pled my cause,

Friendship, closeness;  the long years I'd

Waited, holding time captive

Through wistful days.  Grace still denied,

Not seeing through her flaws.

Cold azure eyes, a sea-wind chilling

Each desperate hope, my wiltng life.

Such a small request, stiffly denied,

Pierced me with her blue-edged knife,

Wounding forever, but not killing.

Three days seems to sound the knell

For drying out in the desert, atoning,

Or resting before rising.  So I--destroyed,

Cried myself into finally knowing

Her decision had become mine as well.
