There is no hope.

Conquest of the Heart

Love is just another form of warfare:

The desire to conquer

Without rational tactics or strategies.

Charm and wit will never

Overcome money, strength or power

Designed to vanquish

Rather than sweetly

Seduce through kindness

And truthfulness.

What hope is there

For poets with pure hearts?

Against toxic masculinity

Despising anything

That suggests pure art.

“I’ve got money

And I can mount

A war against you

If you flout

The laws of nature

Where strength prevails.

Your poofter poetry Will inevitably fail!”

How can one argue

Against toxic beliefs?

When I know love is all

However brief.

Fantastic writing, Craig. Some people just love to put writing, especially poetry, down. Write on!

As I pointed out to Mike, militat omnis amans - every lover is a soldier, from Ovid's Ars amatoria, The Art of Love. You wonder why I love Ovid's writing. He was exiled by Augustus in 8 CE for his writing, ending up in the town of Tomis (current location of Constanta in Romania, the edge of Empire). At least my exile was self-imposed.

I feel the same. I should look for a new metaphor, but as Ovid claimed: ' every lover is a soldier' (militat omnis amans from Ars amatoria, The Art of Love). Nothing has changed since Ovid wrote this.
