"Grief" is a poem from my new poetry book "Tears of Me". I use poetry to grapple with life's more difficult moments. After the loss of a sibling, I wanted to write a poem for my mom. She never spoke much about how she felt, so I wanted to give her silence a voice and she loved the poem.

Grief

My child

Still gone

Lord, where were you?

Why is my breath so important

Was his breath not?

Living is now a curse

My shadow now criticizes its light

Empathy from others I consider pain

Hugs are just a constant duty

Why do I awake?

Why does morning care?

And how night pampers me, but my bed resists

Stress is now my companion

Oh how it comforts me during restful nights

My child

Still gone

Thank you CigarGuy1, Sorry for your loss, I wrote this poem for my mom and for many people like you who have wounds so deep that only God can heal.
