A green ogre discovers a city inside his backyard. The city is inhabited by miniature people called The Winzig (little people). He befriends them and enjoys watching their work: a tower they're building, trying to reach Heaven and meet the angels.

Nata and the Winzig

Hello dear friends! I hope they are well. I speak to you from my home, in such an strange time. Why don't we talk about the Winzig, the little people?

There was the great Nata, the good ogre, the green skinned one, strolling through his enormous garden of a thousand square kilometers, when at the foot of a great peach tree, he found a very tiny city, and in it, little men the size of an ant. Without knowing it, there was Winzig in her yard.

The greenish ogre ventured in amazement, coming dangerously close; she wanted to see up close all the tiny buildings, streets and parks that those beings had created. Nata would watch them work until the afternoon, when the sun went down; they built bridges, made towers, planted and cultivated a kind of pink corn.

It was very exciting for her to be able to observe such intelligent lives, but so tiny, feeling great respect for them, she was afraid of killing them by accident. As night fell, the Winzigs held a festival with floats, tambourines, and drums. The males carried the floats and the females danced. Nata put a horn in his ear to better hear all that, and it was music and a language that he could not explain. Arriving at one in the morning, they went to rest.

The next day he watched them again, eager to satisfy his curiosity with the novel find. The Winzigs were building a tower in the center of their city, and they said to themselves: "let's see how high we can get." They wanted to meet the angels and greet them, so they started to build the tower, reaching just like 30 centimeters in a couple days. Nata was interested to know how high they could get, and he was watching them. The time came when everyone began to be hungry, and they had not prepared food.

Nata wanted to help them, and brought them bread from her house. They didn't want to try it at first, but the aroma was very good. Eventually everyone was very comfortable with what Nata brought them, including the farmers, and they stopped working the land. That night they held a celebration in honor of Nata, the giant (because they saw him as such).

As Nata brought them bread, they stopped working and became lazy and arrogant, gossipy and gluttonous. Nata got bored with them and didn't visit them for a while. A harsh winter passed, and when spring came, the ogre remembered his friends, and wanted to see the tiny beings again. Upon arrival, he found none, and the city looked in a state of disrepair. After a while a Winzig came out, all skinny, lanky.

“Lord Giant, most people left the city. There is no food because nobody wanted to work anymore”. Nata brought bread to the survivors, but this time they did not finish it, they kept it in a warehouse, and they dedicated themselves to planting that pink corn they used to. At the harvest festival, they made a cake for the ogre, with the size of a small coin. It tasted sweet like honey, and it took away his hunger in no time. They spent ninety percent of their reserves to surprise him with it. They built the Tower together that started out measuring 30 centimeters, and after a long time, it reached the clouds of Heaven, and the angels went up and down through it.
