a poem about almost getting attacked by a rattlesnake.

a rattle snake

picking blackberries

in the thicket

boys heard a

rattling noise

froze in their tracks

recognized the sound

only a rattle snake can make

spotted coiled snake

in front of them

snake turned head

towards one

then the other

slowly back and forth

rattling for all it was worth

one boy had apple in pocket

when snake turned away

threw apple near the snake

snake turned from boys

struck where apple landed

boys ran for dear life

dropping bucket of berries

no blackberries for a pie

what would my

mama say
