Dogs

A Real Improvement to Human Life

I’ve written a few poems about dogs and I never get disinterested. Dogs are amazing. The tactile nature of petting their coat has a soothing effect. When they slobber on me, I am reminded that I am not in a perfect world, although I might want to think so!

Your pet dog is always at your side licking you, cuddling you, and letting you know that they care about you. They seem to have instinctual wisdom that senses moods and they will stay closeby when you suffer melancholy. Even sickness is detected through their sense of smell.

Always the same, they are amusing, blissful as long as you feed them, pat their head, and take them for a walk.

They have a calming effect on any environment. If you are out chopping wood for the campground, they are beside you, seemingly making strenuous work easy. Even when they’re sick, they don’t complain but just sleep it off. Always appearing to be smiling, they remind us we could do better, and have a different attitude.

They are our connection to nature. They love to dart and bounce through the grass, exploring for butterflies, sniffing different flowers, jumping over tree stumps.  They make us athletic, and familiar with the beautiful simplicity of nature.

Dogs encourage us all to be like them--adventurous, stable, enjoying the moment. They have many lessons to teach us.

Above all dogs are loyal, and will fight to the death for their owner who is being attacked, because a dog’s love for us is always there, even though we don’t always deserve it.

Enjoy many years with your dogs and acknowledge how they improve your life.
