It’s in the way you smile

When all is not well,

And how you help others

When in sadness they dwell.

It is how you fight

All the time

For other’s rights,

Never asking for a dime

In return.

It is in the way you walk,

With confidence in stride,

How you stare fear in the eye,

And never try to hide.

It is how you drink your coffee,

Caramel in color,

And all the conversations we have

With one another.

It is how I weep when I think

Of the end,

How I worry that time

Will take my best friend.

I love you dearly,

With all my heart,

’Til time stands still,

Even after we part.

Because there’s no one

As perfect, or good or grand,

No daughter nor son,

Who can stay where you stand.
