We are walking the shape of the state

The jagged slump of infinity

But the sandy shroud recedes like hope

And the empty sky is killing me

We are crying the song of the sea

All hail its timeless pedigree

But the orchestra's all splintered bone

And its heartless dirge is killing me

We are dancing the dance of the wild

To a whirlwind fire melody

But feet scatter like rainbow glass

And each slicing step is killing me

But we also dream of atmosphere

The hot frontier of the century

And married even to this expanse

The blend is often thrilling me

And inland stretches neon splash

Where fragile mood is villainy

Ferlinghetti bent sinister

A Phony Island thrilling me

Yes, we shall walk the shape of the state

The jagged slump of infinity

And I in misty bursts shall know

The shape of what is thrilling me
