In Condemnation

I stand here before you

as those accusations fly.

I won’t waste my time

in trying to doge the barbed darts

of your words.

I have nothing to say,

no reply to make

for I know it would be a futile breath spent.

Tried and found guilty.

No chance of an innocent verdict.

So I’ll give you the stake

and some coils of rope,

well soaked in gasoline.

I’ll gather the wood;

the blown down branches

and pile them up carefully so that

the flames will catch,

the flames will roar.

And I won’t struggle or try to escape,

There’s no fight left within me.

I’m resigned to my fate

so just get on and do it

and burn me at the stake.

No moans will escape my lips,

no screams of agony

but I'll let the flames consume me in silence.

I’ll not even mutter a curse

but will simply close my eyes

and accept my sentence,

your punishment.

It won’t be me that

will have to live with the consequences

for I’ll prowl through your nightmares

and your suffering will last

so much longer than mine.

A victim of your condemnation

and now you will become mine.

Brilliant, intense, a deeply heartfelt condemnation of all those who perished, their dangerous legacy, for us to fear!

This was written very much in response to a current situation that I've been going through, as well as for those in the past. Thanks, HJ.
