Agree or disagree, it’s almost in the books

Well, this election is nearly in the books. We’re only days away from the beginning of the end of this electoral cycle.

Whether there is a clear victory, either way, or we see society flash it’s ugliest tendencies and dispositions and take to the streets eschewing violence and disorder is still a matter for speculation and conjecture. We shall see what we shall see.

One thing is fairly certain, at least in my mind.  Regardless of the outcome of this particular election cycle, it is highly unlikely that the name Trump will vanish from the American political lexicon.

Whatever the strengths or shortcomings of this administration, as you choose to characterize them, the Trump klan has witnessed firsthand the financial benefits and international clout that come with and from having close associations with the White House. They’ve tasted blood and they’ll want more.

The obvious path of continuity of trumpian influence peddling in the mart of world commerce is re-election. Business as usual for Jared, Ivanka, Eric, Don Jr. and their ilk.

But should the clock on Don Sr.’s presidency have run its course, I do not see the trump bunch exiting Washington D.C. single file as they head back to their former digs along the Manhattan skyline. Not gonna happen, at least not without some future assistance from the American voter.

I have already heard a couple of scenarios wherein one, or more, of the Katzenjammer kids makes their own bid for public office. Much like their lives up to now, it doesn’t look like any of the Trump spawn will have to enter politics at the journeyman level and work their way up through the ranks.

According to a January 2019 article in The Guardian, citing results from a survey by news site Axios and Survey Monkey, 29% of those polled favored Don Jr. as the 2024 Republican Presidential nominee, while 16% of those polled believed Ivanka is a suitable candidate for president of the United States.

Frankly, those numbers scare the crap out of me. If we have learned nothing else from the last four years, for me it would have to be that perhaps international policy decisions should not be left to the whims of a reality tv show host...or anyone else named Trump, but that’s just me.

Historically, there is plenty of context for the presidency being a family affair.  There was the father son duo of John Adams and John Quincy Adams (in 1797 and 1825).  The grandfather and grandchild presidencies of William Henry Harrison and Benjamin Harrison (1841 and  1889). Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Teddy Roosevelt were fifth cousins, or something, (1901 and 1933). More recently, there were the George Bushes,(1989 and 2001).  And of course Bill and Hilary Clinton tried to become the first husband/wife presidents and failed.

So a Trump dynasty? It could happen, I suppose. But as someone who has not been a big fan of the first Trump presidency, I wouldn’t consider it so much a “dynasty” but maybe more of an Amerika “die nasty”.

Again, that’s just me with my own opinion. And you know what they say, “opinions are like a**holes, EVERYBODY has one”.

They also say that “politicians are a lot like diapers, they should be changed frequently, and for the same reasons.”

People often attribute the latter quote to Mark Twain.  A superficial internet search suggests that, although Twain would have appreciated the sentiment, the quote probably did not originate from him.

Whatever the case, I would venture a guess that win or lose, we have probably not seen the end of the political aspirations for team Trump.

Get out there and VOTE.

Already voted. Trump owns the Republican Party, it will be his personal chew toy the rest of his life or until he gets bored with it.
