Can someone explain?

Looked away for just a second
And when I looked back, chaos

Strangers with hammers beating,
Me, the constitution, normal

Head's bashed in; not from the wreck
Under assault, under review, under the bus

Strangers with sharpened words
Looking to stab me and the world

When did polite become a dirty word?
