Status: Finished  |  Genre: Poetry  |  House: Booksie Classic

frugal with the hours
past the evening news
your husband checks caller id

this call is coming
from the clement neighbor who
confides across your fence

from a sterile room
removed from visceral war
her soldier flew a drone

to a classified location last week
their baby daughter arrived
with wide and somber eyes

you've browsed tonight's images
television off
afterimage remains  red

a hijab tumbled by
the smoldering corpse
of a car

near the wheels
a glitter purse
melted over shards of glass

god pick up the phone
