A few lines about a special guy

There's a self-righteous chap called the Half Penny Kid,

And history records the things that he did,

Having learned about Rights he's taken the view,

That he sees right through what governments do.

Alfred said, 'to the burghs!, the Vikings are here!'

Half Penny Kid cried 'You're inciting fear',

'I know my Rights and I won't go to town',

The following day the Danes mowed him down.

'Turn off the lights as the bombers return',

Our man of the people said 'I'll let mine burn',

Helping the Luftwaffe to reset their sights,

But at least he protected his god given Rights.

With the Earth in the grip of a viral pandemic,

The Half Penny Kid doesn’t bow to polemic,

Why socially distance as the government asks?

Why follow the herd with their gels and masks?

One side of the coin, Rights, is a thing of pride,

But a two sided coin is a much better guide,

Responsibility is, and here comes the twist,

A precondition for the coin to exist.
